Palestine, TX — A 47-year-old man has been arrested on an aggravated assault charge after Palestine Police said a workplace incident at Cotton Patch Café resulted in a 16-year-old employee being cut with a bladed instrument.
According to the Palestine Police Department, officers learned Sept. 3 about an incident that occurred at the restaurant the previous day.
Police said what reportedly began as horseplay escalated when Jose Vargas Buenrrostro allegedly attacked his 16-year-old coworker with a bladed instrument believed to be a box cutter, cutting the teenager's arm.
According to PPD, restaurant management directed the injured teenager to treat his own wound using a medical kit at the restaurant and then finish his shift waiting tables. Police said Buenrrostro also remained at work.
After his shift, the teenager's parent took him for medical treatment, where he received two sutures.
PPD detectives opened an investigation and obtained an arrest warrant for Buenrrostro on Sept. 4. He was arrested at his home in Elkhart on a charge of Aggravated Assault.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
The charge is an allegation. Buenrrostro is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
