Laredo, TX — U.S. Border Patrol's Laredo Sector is warning about the dangers and legal consequences of attempting to cross the river between official ports of entry.
Border Patrol said attempting to cross the river illegally can be extremely hazardous and potentially life-threatening.
The agency also warned that entering the United States illegally between ports of entry violates federal law. According to Border Patrol, individuals attempting to enter in this manner may face criminal prosecution under 8 U.S.C. § 1325 and removal proceedings.
Officials urged people not to risk their lives attempting dangerous river crossings.
