Dayton, TX — A man was arrested after a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office corporal spotted a reported stolen vehicle and a brief pursuit ended in a crash, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began around 7:10 p.m. August 21 near the intersection of U.S. 90 and FM 1413 in Dayton.

The Sheriff’s Office said a corporal attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but a brief pursuit followed. The vehicle eventually crashed, and the driver, identified as Sheldon Lee Patrick Murphy, allegedly attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.

The stolen vehicle was recovered.

Murphy was transported to the Liberty County Jail and charged with:

• Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
• Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle

The charges are allegations. Murphy is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
