Hood County, TX — Hood County Environmental Health is warning the public after multiple wastewater spills from the Canyon Creek Wastewater Plant resulted in untreated material entering an inlet of Lake Granbury.
According to county officials, spills from the Aqua Texas-operated facility occurred August 26, August 31 and September 2.
The uncontrolled releases originated at the wastewater plant and entered an inlet of Lake Granbury. Cleanup efforts are underway, and water quality testing is expected to be conducted after cleanup is completed.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Brazos River Authority and Hood County Environmental Health have been notified and are coordinating response and oversight efforts.
PUBLIC HEALTH PRECAUTIONS
Until further notice, officials say all recreational use of the lake near the Canyon Creek area should be avoided, including:
• Swimming
• Wading
• Fishing
• Boating
Pets and livestock should also be kept out of the water.
Warning signs will be posted at public access points as needed. The precautions will remain in effect until water quality testing confirms conditions meet applicable standards.
Officials said updates will be provided as cleanup progresses, testing results become available and authorities determine when the advisory can be lifted.
