Rusk County, TX — An illegal outdoor burn spread to a nearby residence off FM 782, prompting a response from the Elderville-Lakeport Volunteer Fire Department.
Fire officials said the fire has been contained, but crews are expected to remain at the scene for an extended period conducting overhaul operations and extinguishing hot spots.
The department said the incident serves as another reminder of why residents are being asked not to burn while dangerous fire conditions persist.
BURN BANS ARE IN PLACE FOR A REASON
Even a small outdoor fire can quickly spread to homes and other property under dry conditions. Residents are urged to follow local burn restrictions and avoid outdoor burning.
