Texas — Ford has issued two recalls affecting nearly 159,000 vehicles over separate problems that could result in a sudden loss of power, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The larger recall covers 148,663 Ford Mustangs from model years 2024 through 2026. NHTSA says ground eyelets in the vehicle's wiring harness may fracture, potentially causing a loss of drive power.

The defect could also cause other vehicle systems to stop working, including the headlights, air conditioning, engine cooling fan or windshield washer fluid pump.

A separate recall covers 10,001 Ford vehicles from the 2026 model year equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine:

• Bronco
• Bronco Sport
• Explorer
• Ranger
• Mustang

NHTSA says those vehicles may experience piston failure, which could result in a loss of power. Warning signs may include an illuminated check-engine light, engine misfires or unusual engine noises.

WHAT OWNERS SHOULD KNOW

For affected 2024-2026 Mustangs, Ford dealers will replace the wiring harness ground eyelets.

For affected 2026 vehicles with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, dealers will inspect the engine and replace pistons if necessary.

Ford has begun notifying affected dealers and vehicle owners.

Owners should check their vehicle's VIN through the NHTSA recall lookup or Ford's recall system to determine whether their specific vehicle is affected.
