Denton, TX — An attempted shipment containing 191 turtles and tortoises was intercepted after a local FedEx office contacted the City of Denton Animal Shelter about the animals.
Denton Animal Services responded and took all 191 animals into custody, providing temporary housing and care while local representatives of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service were notified.
Federal wildlife officials subsequently opened an investigation into the attempted shipment.
The animals have since been transferred to the Dallas Zoo, where Denton Animal Services said they are now safely housed.
