Texas — The VA is warning veterans about a postcard scam that claims extra benefits or payments, including CHAMPVA, TRICARE, and dental coverage, with or without a disability rating.

The cards may say they are tied to VA and push people to call within a few days. Officials said the goal is to get a veteran or spouse on the phone and then ask for a Social Security number, bank details, or other personal information.

VA said not to call the number on the card, not to share personal or financial information, and not to send gift cards, wires, bitcoin, or prepaid cards. If something looks off, hang up and call VA directly.

How to Check or Report

Call VA at 1-800-827-1000. Suspected fraud can be reported at VSAFE.gov or 1-833-38V-SAFE.
