Granbury, TX — Families have identified two friends with ties to Granbury among the dead after a weekend flash flood in Grand Canyon National Park. A third friend is still missing.
John Giusti, 46, a chiropractor, and Brent Rosenkranz, 42, who owned a martial arts studio, were found after Saturday’s flood along Bright Angel Creek. Timothy Smith, 53, a Wyoming pilot who went on the trip with them, remains unaccounted for.
The three men spoke with their families Thursday and reached a campsite Friday at the bottom of the canyon. They have not been heard from since, the families said.
About 80 people were rescued Saturday and Sunday. Officials said they have no reason so far to believe anyone else is missing besides Smith.
The flood also damaged the park’s only water pipeline into the canyon. Overnight stays inside the park were barred and emergency water restrictions were issued.
