San Antonio, TX — A man has been sentenced to 38 years and six months in prison for the 2024 murder of Robert Wellington, according to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.

Cristan Villalobos was convicted in connection with the February 2024 shooting on West Ridgewood Court, where San Antonio police found Wellington shot to death.

Prosecutors said evidence collected at the scene, including DNA and surveillance footage, linked Villalobos to the killing.

The District Attorney’s Office said evidence showed Villalobos and Bobby Mercado Jr. fled the scene in a stolen vehicle after the shooting.

Mercado was arrested shortly afterward at a nearby bus stop and was later connected to the case through witness descriptions and other evidence, according to prosecutors.

A voluntary interview conducted with Villalobos also contributed to his arrest.

Villalobos is the second person sentenced in connection with Wellington’s murder.

In May 2026, Mercado was sentenced to life in prison for Wellington’s murder and received an additional life sentence for Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
