Taylor, TX — Taylor Parks & Recreation said a fish kill was reported Tuesday morning at the pond in Murphy Park.
A pond management company was brought in to assess the situation and determined the fish died after dissolved oxygen levels dropped due to extreme heat.
Officials said low dissolved oxygen fish kills are common during periods of extreme heat because warmer water holds less oxygen.
Oxygen levels in the pond are expected to return to normal within the next 72 hours.
WATER TESTING
Out of an abundance of caution, a third party is testing the pond’s water quality.
Taylor Parks & Recreation said cleanup efforts will continue over the next several days.
