Williamson County, TX — Williamson County Sheriff Matthew Lindemann and District Attorney Shawn Dick released additional information Monday regarding the events that preceded the fatal August 29 officer-involved shooting of Timothy Xayyaraj in Georgetown.
According to the joint release, a Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputy first encountered Xayyaraj during the early morning hours Saturday at St. David’s Hospital in Round Rock. That encounter resulted in Xayyaraj being arrested and transported to the Williamson County Jail.
Officials said a subsequent review of the arrest affidavit determined it did not contain sufficient information to establish probable cause, requiring Xayyaraj to be released from custody.
After his release, authorities said Xayyaraj went to Georgetown Square and exhibited erratic behavior, prompting citizens to contact the Georgetown Police Department.
Police responded and engaged Xayyaraj, leading to an officer-involved shooting. Georgetown Police previously identified Xayyaraj as the 37-year-old man who died in the incident.
INVESTIGATION
The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the shooting.
The Williamson County District Attorney’s Office said the case will be presented to a grand jury after the Rangers complete their investigation, which officials described as standard procedure.
Sheriff Lindemann and District Attorney Dick said no officers were seriously injured and members of the public were kept safe. They also extended condolences to Xayyaraj’s family.
