Rusk County, TX — A 20-year-old Garrison man was arrested following a Rusk County Sheriff’s Office investigation into an alleged aggravated assault involving family violence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began August 27 after a reported victim suffered injuries that authorities described as a broken ankle, scrapes and abrasions.
Investigators said leads developed by August 29 resulted in arrest warrants for Kazmon Vanzandt, 20, of Garrison, on the following charges:
• Aggravated Assault Family Violence — First-Degree Felony
• Violation of a Protective Order — Class A Misdemeanor
Authorities also obtained a search warrant for Vanzandt’s residence in the 6000 block of Rusk County Road 3183.
The Sheriff’s Office said investigators used multi-agency cooperation, law enforcement information sources and the Flock camera system while searching for Vanzandt. Flock information reportedly placed him within approximately 1,500 feet of where Panola County law enforcement officers ultimately arrested him.
At the time of his arrest, authorities said Vanzandt was already out on a $50,000 bond in connection with a separate aggravated assault case reported in Rusk County in June 2026.
Vanzandt was booked into the Rusk County Jail on August 29 and later released on new bonds totaling $80,000.
FIREARM SEIZED
During the search of the Rusk County property, investigators reported seizing a Glock .40-caliber handgun equipped with an aftermarket selector switch commonly referred to as a “Glock switch.”
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the device can convert a semiautomatic handgun to fully automatic fire.
On August 30, authorities obtained an additional arrest warrant for Vanzandt for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
The investigation remains active, and Rusk County officials said additional criminal charges are anticipated.
All charges are allegations. Vanzandt is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
