Edinburg, TX — The Hidalgo County Courthouse will be closed Monday, August 31, after a vehicle crashed into the building’s front entrance, causing extensive damage to the entrance and front doors, according to Hidalgo County officials.
County officials are conducting a preliminary structural assessment and evaluating the damage before determining when the courthouse can safely reopen to employees and the public.
Officials are also coordinating with judicial leadership regarding scheduled hearings, court operations and jury proceedings affected by the closure.
MONDAY CLOSURE
Employees, jurors and members of the public who were scheduled to report to the courthouse Monday should not report to the building.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation by the Edinburg Police Department.
Hidalgo County said additional information regarding court and jury schedules, along with reopening plans, will be released as it becomes available.
