Rio Grande Valley, TX — A drug smuggler has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison following an investigation by U.S. Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector.

According to Border Patrol, agents apprehended the individual near the Rio Grande while in possession of seven pounds of cocaine.

Authorities said a subsequent search of the individual’s residence uncovered materials used to package narcotics along with cocaine residue.

The investigation ultimately resulted in a conviction. The individual was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Border Patrol did not provide the individual’s name or additional information about the federal charges in its announcement.
