Edinburg, TX — Edinburg police and firefighters responded to a major single-vehicle crash at the Hidalgo County Courthouse at approximately 11:35 p.m. Sunday, August 30.

According to the Edinburg Police Department, a preliminary investigation indicates a BMW was traveling southbound on Closner when it failed to stop and crashed directly into the front entrance of the courthouse.

The collision caused extensive structural damage to the building.

Investigators suspect alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains active.

Edinburg Police reminded drivers to arrange a safe way home before drinking, including using a designated sober driver, rideshare or taxi, calling a friend or family member, or staying where they are if they do not have a guaranteed safe ride.
