Cedar Hill, TX — A robbery suspect died after being shot by an armed witness during an incident Monday morning at a Chase Bank in Cedar Hill, according to the Cedar Hill Police Department.
Officers responded around 9:04 a.m. August 31 to the bank in the 200 block of N. Highway 67 Service Road for a robbery in progress.
According to preliminary information, police said an individual entered the bank armed with a knife and demanded money from employees.
During the incident, an armed witness discharged a firearm and struck the suspect. Police said the suspect fled from the bank and was located nearby by Cedar Hill officers, who immediately began lifesaving measures.
Cedar Hill medics transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he later died.
The customer who fired the weapon remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Police emphasized that no officers fired their weapons. No significant injuries to bank employees, customers, witnesses or officers have been reported.
ACTIVE INVESTIGATION
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit are interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence, including surveillance video.
The FBI’s Dallas office was notified and responded to the scene.
Cedar Hill Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
