San Antonio, TX — A 46-year-old woman has died in a suspected drowning following severe storms that brought dangerous flooding to San Antonio on Friday, August 28, city officials said.
Interim San Antonio Police Chief Jesse Salame said two people were in a drainage area near the 500 block of Quincy Street when rapidly moving water swept them downstream during heavy rainfall.
One person was able to escape the water in the downtown area. San Antonio police and firefighters searched the waterway but were initially unable to locate the second person.
On Saturday evening, August 29, a 46-year-old woman was found deceased. The Bexar County Medical Examiner is reviewing the circumstances surrounding her death, which police are currently investigating as a drowning.
Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones confirmed the death Sunday during a news conference addressing the aftermath of Friday's storms.
Police are also investigating a second possible flood-related drowning after a man in his 50s was found at Woodlawn Lake. Officials stressed that information surrounding that case remains preliminary.
