Galveston, TX — The City of Galveston is monitoring Invest AL97 in the northern Gulf as the system moves west-northwest toward the Upper Texas and southwestern Louisiana coasts.

As of the National Hurricane Center’s Sunday afternoon update, AL97 has a 50% chance of developing within the next 48 hours.

The National Hurricane Center said the system has become better organized and that a short-lived tropical depression or tropical storm could form before reaching the Upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coast Tuesday or Tuesday night.

Regardless of whether the system develops, locally heavy rainfall is possible over the next several days.

• Interests along the Upper Texas and Louisiana coasts should monitor the system.
• Heavy rainfall is possible regardless of tropical development.
• Residents and visitors should continue monitoring official forecasts as conditions can change.

The City of Galveston said it will continue monitoring the system and provide updates as conditions warrant.
