Mustang Ridge, TX — A motorcycle pursuit involving Texas DPS, Mustang Ridge Police and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office ended Sunday evening after the rider allegedly traveled the wrong way on U.S. 183 and struck a Mustang Ridge police vehicle.
According to the Mustang Ridge Police Department, officers were asked around 5:49 p.m. to assist Texas DPS troopers who were pursuing a black motorcycle southbound on U.S. 183 near Laws Road.
MRPD officers joined the pursuit, which reached speeds above 90 mph. Authorities said the motorcycle continued through several roadways, including E. Lone Star, SH 130 and SH 45, while weaving through traffic at high speed.
Officers temporarily lost sight of the motorcycle and terminated the pursuit around 5:52 p.m.
About five minutes later, a Travis County Sheriff’s deputy located the motorcycle again on FM 1327 near Creedmoor and attempted another traffic stop. Authorities said the rider fled again.
The pursuit continued onto Evelyn Road before reaching U.S. 183, where police said the motorcycle entered the southbound lanes while traveling northbound.
An original DPS trooper and Mustang Ridge officer were traveling southbound toward the motorcycle. Authorities said the rider narrowly avoided a head-on collision with the trooper.
Police said the Mustang Ridge officer then positioned the patrol unit in front of the motorcycle to stop what officers described as an imminent threat to public safety. The motorcycle struck the front of the police vehicle.
The rider suffered a broken arm and several other minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Authorities said no members of the public were injured.
Texas DPS plans to obtain warrants for the rider. Additional charges were not specified in the release.
All allegations are accusations. The rider is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
