Magnolia, TX — Two Magnolia Police Department officers shot a man late Saturday night after police say he retrieved a pistol and raised it toward an officer during a traffic stop.
According to the Magnolia Police Department, an officer conducted the stop at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday, August 29, on Sugar Bend, just off FM 1774.
Police said the male driver refused to identify himself or exit the vehicle. After the officer opened the driver’s door in an attempt to remove him, the man allegedly reached toward the door panel for an unknown item.
An officer deployed a Taser, but police said it was unsuccessful. The man then allegedly reached toward the door panel again, retrieved a pistol and raised it toward the officer.
Authorities said both officers at the scene discharged their weapons, striking the man multiple times.
After the man was no longer considered a threat, officers immediately began providing lifesaving aid until EMS and fire personnel arrived. He was transported to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.
The Texas Department of Public Safety’s Texas Rangers and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
Police said the man is initially being charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and also had a Harris County warrant for Fraud. Additional charges and information about the suspect are expected to be released later this week.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
