Iraan, TX — The Iraan Volunteer Fire Department is adding new equipment and training resources aimed at improving emergency response and firefighter readiness in Iraan, Sheffield and surrounding areas.
Among the department’s newest additions is a Max Fire Box, a training prop designed to simulate structure-fire conditions. Firefighters will be able to use it to study smoke behavior, recognize changing smoke patterns and better understand thermal layering during interior operations.
The department also purchased a full set of battery-operated extrication tools with help from a donation from Plains Pipeline and additional budget funding. The equipment is expected to help firefighters work more efficiently when removing people trapped in vehicles or other emergency situations.
Additional equipment is expected later in 2026 and into 2027, including:
• A new logistics/support vehicle
• A new tanker
• A forcible-entry training door
Fire Chief Druge said additional improvements are also being planned.
The department credited several local officials and community partners for helping make the upgrades possible, including Admin Vicky Zapata, Mayor Browning, the Iraan City Council, Pecos County, Judge Shuster, Commissioner Perry and the Commissioners Court.
The department also thanked residents and businesses in Iraan and Sheffield for their continued support.
