Georgetown, TX — A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Saturday afternoon on the Georgetown Square, and police are emphasizing that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Georgetown Police said officers were dispatched around 12:49 p.m. to the 100 block of W. 7th Street after callers reported a man jumping on vehicles and behaving erratically.
Officers arrived around 12:55 p.m. and located the man.
According to the preliminary investigation, a violent struggle occurred between the man and officers. During the struggle, police said the man attempted to take a holstered handgun from one of the officers.
Another officer then discharged a firearm, striking the man.
Officers and emergency medical personnel provided aid before the man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said information circulating on social media suggesting there was an active shooter on the Georgetown Square is incorrect.

The identity of the deceased and the names of the officers involved have not been released.
The Texas Rangers are leading the officer-involved shooting investigation with assistance from the Georgetown Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
Authorities stressed that the information released so far is preliminary and may change as interviews are conducted and additional evidence is reviewed.
