Houston, TX — Authorities are searching for a driver who allegedly fled on foot after a federal pursuit that began in Montgomery County ended with a crash in northwest Houston.
Federal agents were pursuing the suspect vehicle southbound on Interstate 45 toward Houston at approximately 6:30 a.m. when the pursuit eventually reached the area of Veterans Memorial Drive and Fallbrook Drive.
Around 6:40 a.m., authorities said the suspect vehicle collided with another motorist’s vehicle, causing it to roll over.
The driver of that vehicle suffered minor injuries and received medical attention.
A passenger traveling in the suspect vehicle was also evaluated and initially declined treatment before later going to a hospital on her own.
Authorities said the driver of the suspect vehicle got out after the crash and ran into a nearby wooded area.
Harris County deputies searched the area with a K-9 but eventually lost the suspect’s scent. Authorities said the man has been identified but remained at large following the search.
Federal agents told Harris County authorities the pursuit involved a man who had a final removal order through U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
An ICE agent was also injured at a separate location during the incident while attempting to break the driver-side window of the suspect vehicle. Authorities said the agent suffered an arm injury after being cut by the glass.
Harris County authorities said state charges are planned against the suspect in connection with the pursuit and crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
All anticipated charges are allegations. The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
