Denton, TX — A Denton man accused of killing and beheading his mother in 2019 has been found not guilty by reason of insanity, according to court records.

A judge determined that Isaac Warriner, 30, could not understand that the killing was illegal at the time because of mental illness.

Warriner was arrested in Love County, Oklahoma, following the 2019 killing after a pursuit and crash on Interstate 35.

Warriner spent seven years in custody before regaining competency.

Following the not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity finding, Warriner will now be sent to a maximum-security state hospital.
