Austin, TX — Austin police are investigating the city’s 37th homicide of the year after an adult man was found dead near the 11700 block of Timber Heights Drive.

Officer Aaron Townsend with the Austin Police Department Public Information Office said officers were called to the neighborhood after multiple 911 reports that a person had been shot.

Officers arrived within minutes and found the victim with injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the suspected shooter was no longer at the location when officers arrived, prompting a search of the surrounding area. A reverse 911 alert was sent to nearby residents, and APD Air One assisted from above.

The suspect, described only as an adult male, was located nearby roughly an hour after the initial call and was taken into custody. He was being questioned by homicide detectives.

Police said the victim and suspect knew each other and emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Investigators were working both inside the residence and in the backyard, but police had not yet determined exactly where the shooting occurred.

The identities of the victim and suspect have not been released, and police have not disclosed what type of weapon was used.

The investigation remains ongoing.

All allegations are accusations. Any person accused of a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
