Jack County, TX — A 24-year-old Young County man has been arrested after investigators accused him of stealing a deer feeder from property that had been left accessible to firefighters during dangerous wildfire conditions in Jack County.
The Jack County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Quint Thomas Hare.
According to Sheriff T-Bob Hauger, investigators obtained an arrest warrant Friday and traveled to Young County, where Hare was taken into custody. He was then transported back to the Jack County Jail.
Hare was charged with Theft of Property $750-$2,500. The Sheriff’s Office said the charge was enhanced to a state jail felony because of the disaster declaration.
The case began Wednesday night while deputies and firefighters were responding to dangerous fire conditions. A landowner in the Rock Creek Road area had left access to his property unlocked so firefighters could enter and protect lives and property.
Authorities allege Hare used that access to enter the property and steal a large deer feeder.
Game cameras captured images of a truck and trailer, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Investigators followed leads into Young County, where the stolen feeder was recovered and returned to its owner.
Hare is accused of the offense and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
