Galveston County, TX — Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday for James Elmore, who is accused of helping conceal the remains of two women whose bodies were found in the area that became known as the “Texas Killing Fields.”
Elmore faces charges of manslaughter and tampering with evidence. He was also charged with possession of child pornography in April. His combined bond was reported at $4.5 million, and he remains in the Galveston County Jail.
Prosecutors allege Elmore helped Clyde Edwin Hedrick conceal the remains of Laura Miller and Audrey Cook.
Hedrick, a longtime suspect in the Texas Killing Fields cases, died by suicide March 21. He was never charged in those cases and had maintained his innocence.
According to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, prosecutors had been preparing before Hedrick’s death to ask a grand jury to charge him with the murders of Laura Miller, Heide Fye, Audrey Cook and Donna Prudhomme.
Elmore was taken into custody March 31.
