Kimble County, TX — Fire crews responded to a series of brush fires across multiple counties Thursday afternoon after thunderstorms brought lightning and strong winds to the region.
According to the Junction Volunteer Fire Department and Kimble Rural Fire Department, the first smoke call came in around 3 p.m. near Ranch Road 1674 and Kimble County Road 210. A second was reported about 13 minutes later farther west along RR 1674. Both were determined to be across the county line in Sutton County.
Crews continued into Sutton County to assist with a fire in the 5000 block of County Road 314. That fire was estimated at approximately 60 acres.
Additional fires followed throughout the afternoon:
4:24 p.m. — A brush fire was reported along I-10 near mile marker 476. Crews responded and quickly extinguished it.
5:03 p.m. — Another brush fire was reported along I-10 near mile marker 483 in Kerr County. Crews assisted Mountain Home Fire Department.
5:35 p.m. — A small lightning-caused fire was reported on Kimble County Road 140 off U.S. 377. Crews responded and mopped up the fire.
Another lightning-caused fire was reported farther south along U.S. 377 at Little Paint Creek Ranch, prompting an additional response.
Fire officials said all units were back in service by midnight.
