Angelina County, TX — A 36-year-old Lufkin woman was arrested early Friday after authorities said a vehicle pursuit ended when she abandoned a U-Haul box truck and jumped into a pond.

According to the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were patrolling the Hudson community around midnight when they observed a traffic violation near Walnut Hill Road and State Highway 94.

Deputies attempted to stop the U-Haul, but the driver allegedly accelerated away, leading authorities along Highway 94 and FM 1194 toward Peavy Switch.

The pursuit continued onto Randall Palmore Lane, where authorities said the driver left the vehicle and ran before jumping into a pond as deputies pursued her on foot.

Deputies attempted to persuade the woman to leave the water, but she refused, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A deputy then entered the pond and removed her.

The driver was identified as Shayna Marie Allen, 36, of Lufkin. Authorities said Allen was wanted on a parole warrant, and additional charges stemming from the pursuit were filed.

The Sheriff’s Office said Allen will be held without bond for Pardons and Paroles. According to the agency, she previously received a 10-year sentence for burglary and has 18 jailing events listed in Angelina County records.

Allen is presumed innocent of the newly filed charges unless and until proven guilty in court.
