The Woodlands, TX — Firefighters responded Friday afternoon to a reported structure fire on West French Oaks Circle in the Village of Sterling Ridge after a lightning strike ignited vegetation buildup in the gutters of a two-story home.
The Woodlands Fire Department said crews were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. and arrived to find flames along the roofline.
Firefighters accessed the roof and determined that a nearby tree had been struck by lightning, igniting vegetation accumulated in the home's gutters.
Crews extinguished the fire and checked the interior and attic for possible extension. Fire damage was confined to the gutter and some roof shingles.
The department reminded residents to call 911 if they believe their home has been struck by lightning and encouraged homeowners to keep gutters and roofs clear of leaves and pine needles, particularly during drought conditions.
The Woodlands Fire Department was assisted by Montgomery County ESD No. 10/Magnolia Fire Department and Montgomery County Hospital District.
