Laredo, TX — Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño plans to bring an item before the next regular City Council meeting seeking a review of an ordinance that could impose stricter consequences for people found guilty of animal cruelty and neglect.

The announcement came during a press conference with Laredo Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez following a recent animal cruelty case that drew widespread attention on social media.

Officials credited members of the community with initially reporting the situation and later helping authorities locate the approximately 2-year-old dog.

The dog is now safe in the care of Laredo Animal Care Services. Officials said he was found somewhat malnourished and with a minor paw injury that is expected to heal soon.

Additional information on the case and proposed ordinance is expected as it becomes available.
