Hays County, TX — Hays County has secured a $39.2 million federal award for a major transportation and safety project that will carry Centerpoint Road over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Precinct 3.
The Centerpoint Crossing Elimination and Safety Project is estimated to cost approximately $49 million, with the federal award covering 80% of the project. Hays County is advancing the project in coordination with the City of San Marcos.
Plans call for an overpass that would eliminate the existing conflict between roadway traffic and trains while reducing delays at the crossing.
The project will also include:
• Four travel lanes
• A median
• Roadway shoulders
• Shared-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists
Precinct 3 Commissioner Morgan Hammer said the crossing is both a traffic and public safety concern, adding that elevating the roadway over the railroad tracks would improve safety and mobility.
