Smith County, TX — A 57-year-old Flint man is being held on a combined $1.5 million bond after authorities said he threatened neighbors and law enforcement with a shotgun before barricading himself inside a home.
According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Thursday to the 16000 block of Oakwood after a caller reported that Christopher Miller entered the caller’s property while he was fishing and threatened him with a shotgun.
Authorities said Miller also threatened to kill the reporting party and law enforcement.
Deputies determined Miller had allegedly threatened three people with the firearm before retreating inside his residence.
After multiple attempts to convince him to come outside were unsuccessful, SWAT personnel and crisis negotiators responded.
The Sheriff’s Office said SWAT ultimately deployed gas inside the residence. Miller then exited the home and surrendered without further incident.
Miller was evaluated by EMS and transported to the Smith County Jail.
He was booked on two outstanding aggravated assault warrants and three new aggravated assault charges stemming from the standoff. His bond on the three new charges was set at a combined $1.5 million.
Miller is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
