Galveston, TX — A bomb threat prompted an evacuation at Murdoch’s Pier along Seawall Boulevard Thursday evening before authorities determined a suspicious package found at the scene was not a live device.

According to the Galveston Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Seawall Boulevard at approximately 5:54 p.m. on August 27. The business had made the decision to evacuate customers and employees.

Responding officers located an unattended package, prompting authorities to call in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.

After evaluating the package, the EOD team determined the safest course of action was to destroy it in place. Police said an examination of the remnants later determined the package was not a live device.

Authorities issued the all-clear at approximately 8:20 p.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.
