Walker County, TX — A 22-acre woods fire near FM 247 and Lost Indian Camp Road was contained Friday after firefighters and multiple agencies spent about five hours battling the blaze in rough terrain and heavy underbrush.
According to Crabb’s Prairie Volunteer Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 2 p.m. Aug. 28 after receiving a report of smoke in the area. Responding firefighters spotted a smoke plume west of FM 247 and traveled approximately two miles into a property, where they found a clear-cut area burning.
Because of the difficult terrain and heavy underbrush, additional resources were requested, including brush trucks, tankers, UTVs and bulldozers.
The response included personnel and resources from Crabb’s Prairie VFD, New Waverly Fire Department, Huntsville, Texas emergency management officials, Walker County Emergency Management, Texas A&M Forest Service, Walker County Environmental Crimes and a Tennessee Forest Service crew.
After approximately five hours, the 22-acre fire was contained and crews cleared the scene.
