Texas — Texas A&M Forest Service is warning that wildfire activity could increase across the state as hotter and drier conditions return following a week in which 156 wildfires burned 94,067 acres.
According to the agency, Texas A&M Forest Service and assigned resources responded to 89 of those fires, accounting for 93,615 acres burned.
Rain chances are ending Friday as a weak cold front moves out of Texas. Drier conditions are expected this weekend, with winds of 15–20 mph forecast across portions of the High Plains on Saturday.
WILDFIRE OUTLOOK
Initial attack potential is expected to remain moderate in East Texas because of continued dryness and dry surface fuels.
Looking ahead, above-normal temperatures and dry weather are expected to increase wildfire activity next week. Fuels could dry quickly, with elevated to significant fire potential developing as early as Sunday and continuing into next week.
Areas of particular concern include:
• Rolling Plains
• Cross Timbers
• Eastern Hill Country
Residents are urged to remain aware of local conditions and use caution with activities that could spark a wildfire.
