Johnson County, TX — The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive inside the Johnson County Jail on August 25.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, detention staff discovered the inmate in the facility’s C3 housing area. Immediate efforts were made to assist the individual, but the inmate was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s Office said appropriate state agencies have been notified in accordance with established procedures and state law.
The Texas Rangers and Texas Commission on Jail Standards will conduct independent investigations into the death. The Sheriff’s Office has also initiated an internal administrative review of the incident.
Next-of-kin notifications are underway, and the Sheriff’s Office is withholding the inmate’s identity to allow the family to be properly notified.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will provide the official identification and determine the cause and manner of death.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available and is permitted by law.
