Kyle, TX — A Hays County jury convicted 41-year-old Reginald Clifton of multiple sex offenses, and a judge later gave him life sentences on all four counts.
The jury found him guilty on June 15 of sexual assault, sexual performance by a child, attempted aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated sexual assault. On August 10, District Judge Alicia Key sentenced him to life on each count. Three sentences will run at the same time. The fourth will run after those.
Prosecutors said Clifton was a manager at the Jack in the Box in Kyle. They told the jury he hired vulnerable teenage girls, gained their trust and the trust of some of their families, and gave them alcohol on and off the job. The charges involved three young women who were 17 and 18 at the time.
During punishment, the court heard that Clifton had begun a relationship with a 16-year-old employee and later targeted other teenage employees. The judge also heard evidence of domestic violence against two other women and prior convictions, including assault on a peace officer, robbery, and aggravated robbery. In the aggravated robbery, prosecutors said he shot a man and was sentenced to 16 years in 2009.
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Ashley Indelicato and Shelby Griffin prosecuted the case. San Marcos and Kyle detectives Elrod and Carrasco led the investigation.
