Texas — Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an industry-wide investigation into companies selling food products marketed as being “made with avocado oil,” following reports that some may contain undisclosed seed oils or other ingredients.

The Attorney General’s Office cited a 2026 UC Davis study that tested products labeled as using avocado oil as their sole oil ingredient. According to the state, testing found seed oils in:

• 93% of chip samples tested
• 71% of mayonnaise samples tested
• 100% of dressing samples tested

The Attorney General’s Office said the seed oils identified through testing were not disclosed on ingredient lists or elsewhere on the packaging.

As part of the investigation, Civil Investigative Demands have been issued to Primal Kitchen, Siete Foods and Chosen Foods, with additional companies expected to receive demands.

The investigation will examine whether companies misled consumers in violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The issuance of an investigative demand does not by itself establish that a company violated the law.
