Harlingen, TX — A second person has been charged in connection with an alleged $750,000 employee theft scheme involving Valley Cancer Associates, according to the Harlingen Police Department.
The case began May 19, when Valley Cancer Associates reported suspected financial fraud involving a former employee. That former employee, identified by police as Yuliana Perez, was taken into custody without incident Aug. 4 by Harlingen police detectives and the Brownsville Police Department.
Police announced a new development Thursday involving Perez’s husband, Eduardo Nava of Brownsville.
According to investigators, Nava turned himself in to authorities Aug. 18 for his alleged involvement in the case.
Detectives said they identified a bank account belonging to Nava that was allegedly used as part of the embezzlement scheme. Investigators allege Nava knew about the scheme and that his account was used in connection with the misappropriated funds.
Nava was charged with:
• Theft by Possession — Second-Degree Felony
• Bond: $45,000
The investigation stems from allegations involving approximately $750,000.
Charges are accusations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
