Round Rock, TX — Round Rock ISD is again searching for a police chief after another change at the top of its school police department.
The district confirmed the chief of police position is posted and that administration is hiring a new department leader. Sgt. Lisa Cleere is serving as interim chief while that process continues.
The district said sergeants and officers throughout Round Rock ISD continue to maintain the safety of campuses, facilities, and staff.
The department has had multiple chiefs since the board approved an independent school police force in 2019.
Jeffrey Yarbrough served as the first chief from 2020 to 2022.
Dennis Weiner was named chief in 2022 and left the district in 2024 after what officials described as a personnel change. That departure followed investigations into department culture and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement findings involving hiring and licensing issues.
Ryan Urrutia was hired in 2024 and later left the department.
Latriesha Grandy, who had served as assistant chief and then interim chief, left in August 2026, according to TCOLE records and a district confirmation.
Cleere has been with the department since 2020, records show.
The chief reports to the superintendent. The posted salary range is $147,664.60 to $180,078.50.
The department covers a 110-square-mile district with more than 50 campuses. Texas law requires an armed security officer on each campus during regular school hours. District officials have previously said they do not have enough officers to meet that one-per-campus standard and have cited ongoing staffing shortages.
