Dallas, TX — Four former Dallas ISD Police Department vehicles are getting a second life in the classroom, giving students hands-on experience through the district’s mechanical programs.

On behalf of Chief Martinez, the Dallas ISD Police Department donated four retired police vehicles, including Ford Crown Victorias and Dodge Chargers, to Career Institute South and Career Institute North.

Students will use the vehicles to learn how law enforcement vehicles differ from standard passenger vehicles and gain practical experience with specialized components, including police-package equipment, lighting systems and sirens.

The donation will also allow students to learn about the unique mechanical demands placed on law enforcement vehicles while developing skills that can be applied to future careers.

The retired patrol vehicles may be finished with police work, but they now have a new assignment: helping train Dallas ISD’s next generation of technicians.
