Bee County, TX — A registered sex offender from New Mexico has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from allegations involving three girls from the same Bee County family, according to the 156th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Trinidad Guzman was sentenced Monday after Judge Boyd Bauer accepted his guilty pleas. Prosecutors said Guzman gained the family’s trust before grooming the three children and exposing himself to them during FaceTime calls.
Guzman faced charges that included indecency with a child by exposure and online solicitation of a minor. According to prosecutors, his prior criminal history allowed for a longer sentence than those offenses would typically carry.
First Assistant District Attorney Michelle Craig negotiated the plea agreement, which prosecutors said spared the three girls from having to testify at trial. The children had expressed anxiety about appearing in court and recounting what happened.
The court also issued lifetime protective orders covering the three children and their parents. Prosecutors said Guzman will remain a registered sex offender for life.
“This family was fractured by the actions of a child predator,” District Attorney Tiffany McWilliams said. “Justice in a case like this is not simply about the number of years imposed. It is also about protecting victims from further trauma, holding offenders accountable, and doing everything within the law to protect other children.”
The District Attorney’s Office credited Texas Ranger Justin Cuellar and Bee County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jamie Pelfrey with investigating the case.
