Medina County, TX — A Medina County EMS crew turned a critical chest-pain call into a recovery after recognizing a heart attack within minutes of arrival.
On August 20, Medic 8140, led by Paramedic Madison Cope, was dispatched to an adult man with chest pain. Cope began her assessment immediately and determined he was having a heart attack. The crew loaded him quickly and started treatment, Medina County Fire/EMS said.
They also notified CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Westover Hills ER, nearly 30 miles away, so the hospital team could get ready. After initial stabilization, the patient was taken lights-and-sirens to the ER. The crew continued treatment on the way and prepared for the possibility of cardiac arrest.
At the hospital, he was taken straight to the cardiac cath lab, where blockages were found and cleared. Officials said that within 90 minutes of the crew being notified, a cardiologist had reversed the life-threatening situation and the patient could begin recovering.
The man later visited the B-shift crew to thank them.
