Lufkin, TX — A Lufkin police officer has been arrested on two felony charges after an investigation into possible misuse of Flock automated license plate reader technology, the department said.
Zach Klein, an 11-year member of the Lufkin Police Department, was arrested by Texas Rangers and booked into the Angelina County Jail on Thursday morning. He faces charges of abuse of official capacity and tampering with a government record, both state jail felonies. No bond has been set.
A second officer has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation into that officer’s use of the technology.
Police said the department recently became aware of potential issues and immediately began an audit. Lufkin internal affairs has been investigating the two officers. Chief Travis Brazil also asked the Texas Rangers to conduct an outside investigation.
“While the investigations are ongoing, we have suspended the use of Flock cameras within the department,” Brazil said.
The department said the investigation is ongoing and that no other information is available. Klein is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
