Groveton, TX — A 36-year-old Groveton man has been arrested after Trinity County deputies investigated a series of assault reports and found an injured dog at his home.
On August 19, 2026, deputies responded to a Groveton residence where a 56-year-old man said Trevor Lake had assaulted him. Lake had already left.
While deputies were still there, they were sent to a second Groveton address, where another person said Lake had assaulted him. That victim turned over a large fillet knife covered in blood and said he had taken it away from Lake.
Deputies then went to Lake’s residence to look for him and serve a warrant from a previous case. They found a dog that was tied up and appeared to have a stab wound to its chest and a cut on its leg. The injuries appeared consistent with the recovered knife, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies were then sent to a third Groveton address, where a woman said she had been assaulted several hours earlier.
Warrants were requested for:
• Assault — impede breath or circulation, a third-degree felony
• Cruelty to a non-livestock animal causing serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony
• Assault causing bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor
Lake was taken into custody on August 20. Additional charges are pending based on information received after the arrest.
He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
