Beeville, TX — Beeville firefighters were dispatched around 12:22 p.m. today to a fire in the basement of the post office at 111 N. St. Mary’s St.

Beeville police arrived first and reported heavy smoke coming from a rear door that led to the basement. Everyone had already been evacuated safely, the Beeville Fire Department said.

A second alarm was called, and mutual aid was requested from Bee County fire departments as well as Berclair and Goliad. The first-arriving crew made entry, located the fire, and extinguished it quickly without causing further damage to the building. The mutual aid response was then canceled.

Fire Chief Bill Burris thanked Angel Care EMS, the Beeville Police Department, the Bee County Sheriff’s Office, and Beeville ISD Police for traffic control and standing by for firefighters.
