Denison, TX — Victor Paul Smith has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to theft of property valued at more than $300,000, according to an update from the Denison Police Department.

Smith pleaded guilty on August 19, 2026.

The case dates back to a Denison Police investigation announced in September 2025. Police said Smith, then 42, was accused of taking money from Grayson County residents he had met while officiating youth sports.

Investigators alleged Smith obtained money by promising victims they would receive larger amounts in return despite having no ability or intention to repay them. Police said some cases also involved checks that were not honored.

At the time of his arrest, Smith was being held in the Grayson County Jail on a theft charge involving more than $300,000 with a $100,000 bond.

The case has now resulted in a guilty plea and 25-year prison sentence.
