Del Rio, TX — An 18-year-old driver has been arrested on DWI and driving-while-license-invalid charges after a late-night traffic stop.
On August 16, 2026, at about 3:09 a.m., Del Rio officers responded to the 2200 block of Bedell Avenue after a report of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed without headlights. Officers saw the vehicle but later lost sight of it.
About an hour later, they spotted it traveling north on Veterans Boulevard near Agarita Drive and stopped it after seeing an expired registration sticker. The driver was identified as Julio Roberto Sanchez Jr.
A license check showed his driving privileges were suspended. He was arrested and taken to the Del Rio Police Department.
At the station, an officer reported signs of intoxication and a strong odor of alcohol. Sanchez refused field sobriety tests and refused a breath or blood sample. Officers obtained a warrant for a blood specimen and took him to Val Verde Regional Medical Center, where a sample was collected.
He was charged with driving while license invalid and driving while intoxicated. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
